Your conversation, with context

Posts and replies are made on Annotated, never automatically on another network. External authors are not Annotated members unless they join. An external post is a reference, not permission to republish its underlying work.

Optional discovery

Related sources are off until you enable them. Annotated derives a short topic query from the current page title or your recent Annotated posts. It sends that query to Bluesky and, if configured, YouTube search. It does not connect your personal social feed or send the complete page, your browsing history, or your Annotated profile to search providers.

Bluesky results use its public search API and official embeds. Without a YouTube search key, videos come from a small starter catalog with live YouTube metadata; they are labeled Starter pick, not trending results. No transcripts or video files are imported. X discovery is off.

Embeds and third parties

Loading external embeds shares technical information such as your IP address, browser and possibly cookies with their providers. YouTube uses its privacy-enhanced player, without autoplay. It may still contact Google. Provider terms and privacy policies apply.

Quick reactions

Choosing a reaction in the selection popup immediately publishes the displayed snippet, original source and your selected reaction on your Annotated account. Highlighting or opening the popup alone never publishes. Agree, Questioning, Insightful, Surprising and Angry are explicit responses to that snippet, not inferred beliefs or an emotional profile. Snippet topics can inform For you; no AI is needed to record a reaction. Use Undo, or change/remove your reaction on its post. Removal withdraws your snippet and reaction; other people's replies and private claim receipts remain on the thread.

Controls and retention

Turn off external sources in the feed at any time. A source card’s More menu lets you hide its source or author; the feed’s Source details control resets those choices. Search results are cached in server memory for up to two minutes for Bluesky and one hour for YouTube. They are not saved as native posts. Official players and embeds may remove unavailable content independently.

When you explicitly post, your commentary and attached source link become an Annotated post. Your sign-in provider shares account identity with Supabase Auth. Posts, replies, profile details, and published media are stored in the dedicated Annotated Supabase project. Unpublished media remains private to its owner; local composer drafts remain in your browser. Do not post private or sensitive material in this preview.

With Google sign-in, Google shares your account identifier, email address, name, and available profile picture with Supabase Auth. Annotated uses the identifier for account access, the email for sign-in and account requests, and the name to prefill your editable public profile. Supabase Auth retains the identity metadata; your email and Google profile picture are not shown on your public posts. Annotated does not request access to Gmail, Drive, contacts, or your Google activity.

Remove post withdraws your post from the public feed; it does not immediately erase every stored record or another person’s reply. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account and stored data, email justin@hardwarehub.io with your account handle and the request. We will verify that you control the sign-in account before disclosing or changing private data, then explain any records that must remain for a claim or another person’s thread. Requests are handled manually during the preview.

Attribution and concerns

Use View on Bluesky or YouTube for the original, including provider reporting controls. Hide content you do not want to see. Use File a claim for an Annotated annotation; claims are stored privately for operator review, not automatically sent to external platforms. For an urgent content concern, email justin@hardwarehub.io and include the post link.
